The days of summer are finally upon us, that means vacations, outdoor activities, BBQs and gathering for social events. I sure hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather with their family and friends.
In the lead up to Canada Day, I hosted my annual Strawberry Social on June 25th to celebrate senior’s month in Ontario where we welcomed 120 residents at the Roy Hobbs Community Centre. A huge thank you and appreciation goes out to the Lions Club of Orléans for helping with the set up and the bingo. I would also like to express my gratitude to Canadian Tire-Innes for their generosity for the bingo prizes, local businesses Cora’s, Gabriel Pizza, Occo Kitchen, Shawarma Palace for the door prizes, retirement residences – Belcourt Chartwell, Chapel Hill, Jardin Royal Garden, Willowbend – who donated an amazing array of delicious strawberry dishes. Thank you to the Orléans Fruit Farm where we can always find delicious strawberries.
It was great to start July 1st at the Mayor’s Annual Canada Day Celebration to chat with seniors from all over the city while serving coffee and tea with my municipal, provincial and federal counterparts. It was an honour to join the Baitun Naseer Mosque in Cumberland to raise the Canadian Flag and celebrate our country. Moreover, I would like to highlight the Orléans Legion Branch 632 who hosted our community to great music, dancing, and BBQ.
It was also a pleasure to welcome back the return of the in-person celebrations for Canada Day, our first in over two years and to see all of you that came out to Petrie Island to partake in the “O Canada Orléans” celebrations, organized by the Kiwanis Club of Eastern Ottawa.
On July 15th, I had the honour of being joined by the Prime Minister to visit one of our many amazing family-run businesses here in Orléans. The Prime Minister and I had the chance to chat with Susan and Sam, the owners of Cafe Latte Cino on Tenth Line about the importance of supporting small businesses as well as meeting with their customers.
Lastly, I would like to let you know that I will be hosting in partnership with my colleague MPP Stephen Blais our annual Corn Roast & BBQ, happening in-person this year on August 25 at Petrie Island from 5:30PM – 8:30PM. Save the date for lots of fun for the whole family, and of course, some good local corn and BBQ!
